Thirumavalavan Munusamy (穆牛沙汨)
Education: Ph.D. (Inorganic Chemistry), University of Madras, India
Years of Proofreading Experience: 20+ Years
Proofreading Fields/Specialties:
Including but not limited to Science and Engineering such as Physical. Chemical and Biological Sciences; Materials Sciences; Nanotechnology; Chemical Engineering; Environmental Engineering; Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Bio and Biomedical Engineering; and Medical Sciences. However, I am willing to proofread documents from other fields also provided they are not highly specialized and technical.
Proofreading/ Teaching Experiences:
I have edited professional documents, thesis, research and review papers from my Ph.D. itself. I have published more than 50 international publications in reputed journals. I have been serving as a potential reviewer and editor for various journals. I have worked as an editor and proofreader in few editing companies also. During my Ph.D. I was handling classes for Master students. I have been teaching and doing research in Taiwan for 15 years.
Proofreading Approach:
My general proofreading approach will be as follows; I read the entire document then edit them. I usually reread the document to check for cohesivity, continuity, flow, logic and correctness. All edits that I think necessary will be included into the text using “Track Changes”. These usually include correcting grammar and syntax errors, spelling, punctuation and the structure and format of the sentence. I may also comment on the weakness of the original document and add the comments with suggested changes for better improving the content. However, the author needs to make the final decision for which I will not be responsible.
Acceptable file formats: Microsoft word format please
Other Requirements:
Do not cut and paste and translate the Chinese font into English. Spell check your document and also the logic before submitting. Your editor is not responsible for meeting your publisher’s guidelines. Also, we are proofreading the document you provided to us. So be sure that the logic, data and content are standard worthy or not. You should know the required format for reference citation. I check questionable and unclear terminology; however, you should know the terminology for tour field of study. I can proof read the documents to my best in all possible manners but only the author is the responsible for its acceptance.
Please allow sufficient time for communication especially with longer papers and theses. Also, can usually accept rush papers for an additional fee.
Ferenc Janos Pinter
Education: The Ohio State University, PhD in Mathematics
Years of Proofreading Experience: 18
Proofreading Fields/Specialties: Papers on any field that rely on applied mathematics for their theoretical foundations. All papers considered, though.
Proofreading/Teaching Experiences: I taught 20 years of Mathematics at the university level, and published in ‘LaTeX’ format. I also taught Technical Writing and prepared some linguistic videos for potential authors.
Proofreading Approach: Starting 2023, I introduced a complete flow of AI-enhanced proofreading. This process includes:
- Sentence-level rewriting with grammar correction;
- Strengthening of the Introduction-Body-Conclusion (IBC) paragraph structure through the addition of topic sentences and transitional phrases;
- Reorganizing sentence sequences within a paragraph to achieve coherence, cohesion, and unity;
- Inserting missing background information;
- Expanding on incomplete explanations.
AI-assisted corrections are made by providing sections of the paper, along with my suggestions for improvement, to an AI-client prompt.
Programming Approach:
The native workflow uses ‘UTF-8’ encoded ‘txt’ files in AI clients and ‘LaTeX’ live editing software. A ‘docx’ file with Microsoft created formulas is converted to ‘LaTeX’ for proofreading, since AI clients do not handle MS Word formulas. I can still provide the final proofread paper in ‘tex,’ ‘docx,’ and ‘pdf’ formats using conversion utilities.
Version tracking:
MS Office-type change tracking is not applicable in the above described programming approach. It is still possible to use ‘Git’ if the authors are familiar with it (see https://git-scm.com/downloads/guis). Content addition/deletion is clearly marked by ‘[text ED: opinion]’. Pure grammar corrections cannot be tracked for approval/disapproval.
Acceptable file formats: all.
Other Requirements: Please, use a single character encoding for the whole paper, preferably ‘UTF-8.’ Try to avoid using Chinese punctuation symbols.
**Please, provide me with either a complete ‘LaTeX’ file along with the necessary style file or a complete ‘docx’ with Microsoft Office created formulas, but do not mix them in the same source file.
