English Credit Exemption/Waivers Application
English Credits Waiver/Exemption for the Fall Semester of the 2026-2027 Academic Year
1. Who Can Apply? (And Who Cannot)
This announcement is for all students except for the following:
- Students majoring in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature.
- Students whose departments have their own specific regulations regarding exemption/waiver from English courses.
2. Understanding the Core Rules: Waiver vs. Exemption
The way your credits are counted depends on your year of admission. Please identify which category you fall into.
A. For New Students (Enrolled in Fall 2025 / 114 Academic Year or later)
- Rule: You are applying for the Course Waiver.
- What it means: If approved, you are exempt from taking the required English course. However, these credits will NOT count toward your graduation requirements. You must take additional courses from "General Education" or "Interdisciplinary General Education" to fulfill your total credit requirements.
- Questions about courses? For questions about making up for these credits, please contact the Center for General Education or your department office.
- FAQ 1: Upon completing your waiver, you may enroll in "Second Foreign Language" courses (such as A1 Japanese, German, Spanish, or French) to fulfill the required credits, provided that you manually use the " Application system for transferring credits to GE area courses" to convert these credits into General Education (e.g., Humanities) credits; for further details, please contact the General Education Center.
- FAQ 2: Credits already granted as 'waived' cannot be supplemented by any 'Module English courses' to fulfill the required General Education credit. If you wish to earn English credits through coursework, please do not apply for a waiver, as the Foreign Language Center discourages simultaneous application and enrollment to avoid complex credit recognition issues and potential disputes.
B. For Current Students (Enrolled in or before Fall 2024 / 113 Academic Year)
- Rule: You are applying for the Course Exemption.
- What it means: If approved, the exempted English course credits WILL be counted directly toward your graduation requirements.
C. Special Instructions for Transfer Students and Re-takers
Please note: All students utilizing the Course Credit Waiver System are required to complete and upload their personal information, graduation or enrollment certificates, GPA conversion tables, or other supporting documents as mandatory universal requirements!

3. How to Apply: The Mandatory 2-Step Process
⚠️ Important: Simply registering online is not enough. You must complete both stages below by the deadline. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete application.
【STEP 1】Online Registration
- System: Log in to the "English Course Waiver/Exemption and Confirmation of Foreign Language Competence System".
- Period: August 1 to September 16, 2026, daily from 9:10 AM to 5:00 PM
- Instructions:
- Register Online: Log in and fill out the required information.
- Select the Correct Standard: You MUST choose the application standard that matches your admission year. Choosing the wrong one will lead to rejection.
- Print the Form: After submitting, you must print the physical application form. You will need this for Step 2.
- Operating Instructions: Online Application Instructions
【STEP 2】In-Person Verification at the Foreign Language Center
- Location: Foreign Language Center, 2nd Floor, Hsiu-Chi Building, Kuang-Fu Campus.
- Period: September 7 to September 16, 2026, daily from 9:10 AM to 5:00 PM
- Required Documents: Bring your printed application form from Step 1, along with the original copy of one of the following proofs:
- For native English-speaking foreign students (4 credits): Your valid, original passport.
- For students with 2+ years of education in an English-speaking environment: Official transcripts or proof from your previous institution. This document must clearly list the courses taught in English and the period of study. (Note: Courses taught in English must constitute at least 50% of your total courses. 2 years of study qualify for a 2-credit exemption; 3 years or more qualify for 4 credits.)
- For students with proficiency test score reports/certificate: The original copy must be presented for verification (screenshots, photos, or photocopies are not accepted). For digital-only certificates (those provided by IELTS or TOEFL iBT tests only), applicants must log in to the official testing portal at our counter for on-site verification. We recommend obtaining a physical copy in advance to expedite the process.
4. Crucial Reminders
-
Credit exemption and waiver applications are open at the beginning of every semester; you must complete the in-person verification (Step 2) by the deadline, otherwise your application will be considered incomplete and you will have to start the entire process over again next semester.
-
You can apply for a 2-credit and a 4-credit exemption/waiver once each during your studies (with a maximum of 4 credits recognized in total); please note that these records will be added to your transcript notes one semester after processing, and will not appear immediately.
-
Once your application is approved, you may still enroll in Online Remedial English courses; however, if you decide not to take Module English courses, you must drop the course online by yourself before the end of the "3rd Stage of Course Add/Drop."
-
If your application is not approved, you must take the required English courses as scheduled in accordance with university regulations.
-
Students seeking credit exemption for English courses via English courses (including summer or special sessions) at other institutions must submit the course syllabus to the Foreign Language Center (FLC) for review prior to enrollment. Enrollment at other institutions is permitted only after approval has been granted. The FLC shall not be held liable for any consequences, including the inability to exempt credits, should a student enroll in an external course without prior confirmation from the Center.
