Enrollment in A1 English and Second Foreign Language Courses

Spring Semester of the 2023-24 Academic Year

I. Procedures for A1 Second Foreign Language Course Additions:

1. Students do NOT need to hand in the Form of Course Additions. For those who want to add a course, please go to the class in person first to obtain permission from the instructor. The number of course additions is limited to five.

2. Students are allowed to choose the same level of different foreign languages, but not different levels of the same language.

3. Students are allowed to take a maximum of two courses for different second foreign languages each semester. If students fail to choose their second foreign language courses online, they may obtain permissions for a maximum of two courses. Students may not choose different levels of the same language.

4. About course additions, please go to the NCKU Course Information & Enrollment System to check if there are vacancies in the course you would like to join.

If so, please enroll the course via the NCKU Course Information & Enrollment System from February 26 to March 1.

If not, please go to the class in person to obtain permission from the instructor from February 19 to March 1. For those students who have registered for courses additions with their teachers, the courses will be added successively to their class schedules from March 04 to March 07. Please check on the NCKU Course Information & Enrollment System .

Notes:

1. The Foreign Language Center will NOT assist students in withdrawing from second foreign language courses. If students want to withdraw from the second foreign language courses, please withdraw from the courses online via the NCKU Course Information & Enrollment System from March 8.

2. Students are reminded not to register for more than one course additions of the same language but with different teachers or time slots solely to increase the chance of adding the course. After verification by the Foreign Language Center, the system will automatically add one course for the student, and requests to change the course will not be accepted afterward.

II. Schedule of Course Enrollment

  1. Phase 3 Course Enrollment: 09:00, February 19 to 17:00, February 23

A.1 For English Module Courses, Online Remedial English, Online English for Graduate Students:

A.1.1. ONLY the following students are eligible for course additions during this period.

(a) New transfer students

(b) Non-freshman students on joint degree programs,

(c) Reenrolling students and deferred students for the spring semester of the 2023-24 academic year

(d) Graduate students admitted after the second stage of course enrollment

(e) Students not eligible for online registration

(f) Noah’s plan short-term visit project students
(g) Enrollment Project for Taiwanese Students Returning from Overseas

A.1.2 Students who resumed their studies in the 112-1 semester are no longer considered as students resuming studies starting from the 112-2 semester. Therefore, they must first complete the registration module before they can proceed with course selection. For detailed schedules, please refer to Section (IV) Application for English Modules for second/third/fourth year students.

Online Remedial English:

  1. If you are unable to select the Online Remedial English course online due to English credits exemptions, please come to the Foreign Language Center for course enrollment.
  2. According to the "National Cheng Kung University Online Remedial English Course Registration and Learning Assessment Regulations," the prerequisite for enrolling in the Online Remedial English is the completion of 4 credits in English.

A.2 For Second Foreign Language Courses

Please go to the class directly to ask the instructor for permission to add the course.

  1. Phase 3 Course Enrollment: 09:00, February 26 to 17:00, March 01
    All the following A1 Language courses are open for students to add or drop online during this period, including: English Module Courses, Second Foreign Language Courses, Online Remedial English, and Online English for Graduate Students

                                                                                                          

  1. Phase 3 Adjustment Period: 09:00, March 04 to 17:00, March 07

Any addition from the above A1 Language Courses must be processed by the staff, please come to the Foreign Language Center. For additions to English Module Courses or Second Foreign Language Courses, students are only allowed to be added to the classes with vacancies.

The Foreign Language Center will NOT assist students in withdrawing from  English courses or second foreign language courses. If students want to withdraw from English courses or the second foreign language courses, please withdraw from the courses online via the NCKU Course Information & Enrollment System from March 8.

The rules for additions to English Module Courses or Second Foreign Language Courses are as follows.

-A1 English Course Additions

English Course Additions are not available for university students in their first to third year.

Only students with the following statuses and English modules may add an English course.

  1. Students in fourth grade or above who still lack English credits
  2. Students with course cancellation, instructor change, course time slots change , graduation requirement, or minimum course enrollment requirement
  3. Students under special circumstances

(If you intend to add the English course under special circumstances, please provide relevant proof for the approval of the course additions.)

  1. Students applying for early graduation are required to provide the relevant documents for English Course Additions.
  2. Students who have already completed 4 credits but wish to enroll in additional English courses (only on the last day of Adjustment Period)

- A1 Second Foreign Language Course Additions

  1. Additions for the second foreign language course is only accepted for students listed on the teacher's form of course additions from February 19 to March 01.
  2. Students should pay attention to the course schedule by themselves and will not be notified if any of the following situations occur. The Foreign Language Center will not be responsible for any subsequent problems.
  • Exceeding the credit limit for the semester after additions for the second foreign language but not meeting the overloading qualifications.
  • After adding a second foreign language course, it is in conflict with other courses in the course schedule.
  • If a student, before or after additions, has already chosen a second foreign language course with vacancies through the three-stage online course selection, they will no longer be included in the course additions list for the same course in that semester.
  • Before or after adding a second foreign language course, students who have taken a maximum of two second foreign language courses in the same semester will not be able to add a third second foreign language course in accordance with the " NCKU Foreign Language Center Regulations for Offering the Second Foreign Language Courses".

  1. After course additions, if students find themselves with two foreign language courses of the same name in their current semester schedule, or if they wish to select a foreign language course with the exact same name as a previously completed one, the regulations of the "National Cheng Kung University Student Course Selection Regulations" apply. According to the regulations, "Credits for repeated courses are not included in the minimum required graduation credits, but both the semester grade and the graduation grade will be included in the calculation.". In the event of such a situation, the Foreign Language Center will send an email reminder to the students, and it is essential for them to check their email regularly. If students wish to withdraw from a course due to credit-related issues, they are required to withdraw from the courses online on their own. The Foreign Language Center takes no responsibility for any issues arising from not noticing email notifications, including insufficient total graduation credits or other related problems.

III. Application for English Credit Exemption:

Please be noted that student identity determines the channel for application. Applications must be made through the proper channels.

  1. For freshman, continuing, and foreign students 
  1. [First Phase] Application ONLINE:

Applications for credit exemptions shall be filed online via the Confirmation of Foreign Language Competence System (https://eagle.english.ncku.edu.tw/) from9:00 AM, February 1, 2024 to 5:00 PM, March 1, 2024.

The wavier qualifications for students enrolled in/after the 2017-18 academic year differ from those for students enrolled in/before the 2016-17 academic year (especially for the scores on the TOEFL iBT, TOEIC, and OOPT); therefore, choose the qualifications applicable to the academic year of your admission. Any untrue or insufficient applications require re-submission.

  1. [Second Phase] Approval by Foreign Language Center

A printout of the application form along with one of the following documents should both be submitted in person to the Foreign Language Center on the second floor of Hsiu-Chi Building on Kuang-fu Campus from 9:00 AM, February 19, 2024 to 5:00 PM, March 1, 2024.

Please go to the Confirmation of Foreign Language Competence System (https://eagle.english.ncku.edu.tw/) to check the results of your credit exemption application after your submission to the Foreign Language Center.

  1. For transfer and returning students

  3. Steps for application: Log in to the system to apply for English credits waiver and upload your credentials.

IV. Application for English Modules for second/third/fourth year students:

First Phase: From 9:00 AM, February 19, 2024 to 5:00 PM, February 20, 2024.

Please take the hard copy of your English certificate/transcript to FLC in person to register for your English module, so that you can choose English class at Phase 3 Course Enrollment: 09:00 on February 26 to 17:00 on March 01.

●Second Phase: From 9:00 AM, March 18, 2024 to 5:00 PM, June 14, 2024.

Please take the hard copy of your English certificate/transcript to FLC in person to register for your English module, so that you can choose English class next semester.

Note: Please take the hard copy. Images that show only fragments of the certificate/transcript or print-screened transcripts will NOT be accepted.
