Q&A

Category 1: English Course Selection & Add Requests

Q1: Is the online Add Request mandatory? Can I just bring a paper form for the professor to sign?

Starting from the Spring semester of the 113th Academic Year (113-2), the course addition process is fully digitized. Paper forms are no longer accepted. Please register directly via the "Course Information and Enrollment System."

Q2: The professor already agreed to let me add the class, so why isn't it on my schedule?

Even with the professor's verbal approval, you must still register via the "Course Information and Enrollment System" and upload the required documents. The instructor will review applications online; the course will only be added after their approval.

Q3: What should I write for the "Reason" in the Stage 3 Add Request? Can I leave it blank?

Do not leave it blank. Please fill it out truthfully based on the "Scenarios and Reasons Table" in the announcement, such as "Did not draw any SFL courses" or "Selected course cancelled: [Dept Code]-[Serial No.] [Course Name]."

Q4: I won the lottery for this class before but dropped it. Now I regret it and want to add it back. Can I?

We apologize, but according to the regulations, if a student has a record of selecting a course and then voluntarily drops it, their Add Request for that course will not be accepted.

Q5: I am a senior and I am only short 2 credits. Can I request to add a course?

Yes, you may apply. Please upload your transcript of all academic years (stamped by your department office, with a note stating "Short of English credits" and "Planned graduation this semester") as your supporting document in the system.

Q6: Where do I upload the supporting documents for the Add Request?

When registering for the Course Add Request in the "Course Information and Enrollment System," please merge all documents into a single PDF file and upload it to the corresponding field.

Q7: When will the results be out? Will the Foreign Language Center email me?

The Center will not send individual notifications. Please check the "Review Status" in the [Add Request List] within the enrollment system.

Q8: Is it okay if my schedule screenshot doesn't show my name and student ID?

No. The uploaded screenshot of your schedule must clearly show your Student ID and Name; otherwise, the application will not be accepted.

Q9: If the added course conflicts with a course I already have, will the system drop the original one?

Yes. Once the Add Request is approved, the original conflicting course will be automatically dropped.

Q10: What happens if I apply for two different English courses in the same time slot to increase my chances?

The system processes them based on the order of approval. The course approved first will be added to your schedule, and the application for the other conflicting course will be automatically cancelled (Status: Conflict/Cancelled).

Q11: It's already the first week of school. Can I still go to the Foreign Language Center for an in-person add?

In-person processing (Stage 2) is only for "Winter Break Transfer Students" or "Early Returning Students." If you do not belong to these categories, please use the online system to apply during Stage 3.

Q12: Why is the writing class limited to 25 students? Can I beg the teacher to add one more?

To maintain teaching quality, writing courses (Fundamentals of Writing in English, Academic Writing in English) are strictly limited to 25 students. Requests exceeding this limit will not be accepted.

Q13: I feel too tired after adding the course. Can the Foreign Language Center help me drop it?

The Foreign Language Center does not assist with dropping courses. If you wish to drop a course after a successful addition, you must do so yourself via the online system during the university's designated drop period.

Q14: I have a special reason and must graduate, but I missed the online add period. What should I do?

The Special Factors Stage (Stage 4) only accepts cases where "course changes (e.g., cancellation) directly affect graduation in the current academic year." Personal negligence (missing the deadline or voluntarily dropping) is not accepted.

Q15: I am a transfer student. How do I select General English courses?

If you are a Summer/Winter transfer student (waitlisted admission), please visit the Foreign Language Center office during the designated period with your admission notice.

Category 2: English Modules

Q16: I took the TOEIC exam a long time ago. Can I use that score for Module placement?

There is no expiration date for English proficiency scores for module registration. However, you must complete the "Module Registration" process within the announced period. You cannot select courses until your registration is approved.

Q17: Can I upload a screenshot of my score from my phone?

No. Screenshots, photos of screens, web page captures, or text message notifications are strictly not accepted. You must scan and upload the original score report/certificate.

Q18: I can't find my original score report. Can I use a photocopy or a web screenshot for now?

No. If you cannot provide the original, you must fill out the "Overdue Module Registration Affidavit" and register in person at the Foreign Language Center. Incomplete documentation will not be accepted.

Q19: How do I know which module I am in?

After receiving the confirmation email from the Center, please check the "English Module Level" field at the top of "My Schedule" in the enrollment system.

Q20: I am a freshman and haven't taken any English proficiency tests. Which module should I take?

If you have no test scores, please follow the university's admission instructions (e.g., take the on-campus test). If you wish to be placed based on an external test, you must prepare the official score report and apply for module registration according to the announcement.

Q21: When can I select courses after registering for a module?

Please allow 5-7 days for review after the registration deadline. You may select courses for the following semester only after the review is passed.

Q22: Where is the Module Registration Form link?

The link is provided in the official announcement: https://forms.gle/SsWKokXkAVFs6hjw6 (Please refer to the latest announcement for the current link).

Q23: I am an Overseas Chinese Student, and the name on my passport is different from my student ID. What should I do?

Please provide passport documentation proving that both the Chinese and English names belong to the same person.

Category 3: Credit Exemption & Waiver

Q24: I am a freshman (enrolled in the 114th Academic Year). Can I apply for English credit "Exemption"?

Freshmen enrolled from the 114th Academic Year onwards are subject to the "Waiver" (免修) system. If approved, the English requirement is waived, but the credits do not count towards graduation. You must take General Education courses to make up for the credits.

Q25: I am a current student (enrolled before the 113th Academic Year). If I apply for a waiver, do I need to take extra General Education courses?

Students enrolled in or before 113 apply for "Exemption" (抵免). If approved, the credits count directly towards graduation, so you do not need to take extra courses.

Q26: Is registering online for exemption enough?

No, it is not complete. After online registration, you must print the application form and bring the original documents to the Foreign Language Center for "Stage 2 In-Person Review" within the deadline. Otherwise, the application is invalid.

Q27: Can I ask a friend to bring my transcript to the Foreign Language Center for the review?

Yes. The proxy must bring a "Letter of Authorization" (containing signatures of both parties, ID copies, and the reason) and the relevant original supporting documents.

Q28: Can I bring a photocopy of my English proficiency score for the in-person review?

No. You must present the original score report/certificate. Screenshots or photocopies are not accepted.

Q29: My exemption was approved. Will the English course I already selected disappear automatically?

No. If you pass the review and decide not to take the course, you must drop the course yourself online before the end of the add/drop period.

Q30: I passed the exemption this semester. Do I need to apply again next semester?

If you have completed the full procedure (including passing the in-person review), you generally do not need to re-apply. However, if you only registered online but failed to complete the in-person review, you must restart the entire application process next semester.

Q31: I took university-level English in high school. Can I apply for exemption?

You may apply for "Exemption." Please apply via the "Credit Transfer System" during the Registration Division's announced period and upload your transcript and course syllabus. The Center will evaluate if the content, hours (min. 36 hours), and credits (min. 2 credits) meet the requirements.

Q32: I lived abroad for two years. Can I waive my English requirements?

You must provide original proof of schooling in an English-speaking environment (listing subjects taught in English and duration; English subjects must exceed 50%). Two years of schooling qualifies for a 2-credit waiver/exemption.

Q33: I missed the deadline for the Waiver application. Can I do it late?

Late applications are not accepted. Please strictly adhere to the announced dates for online registration and in-person review.

Category 4: Remedial English & Graduate Online English

Q34: Is the Remedial English/Graduate Online English exam taken at home?

No. The final exam is a physical exam held on campus at the Computer Center, 2nd Floor (Computer Classroom).

Q35: Does this course offer credits?

This is a 0-credit course. Passing the course (60 points for undergraduates, 70 for graduates) is considered fulfilling the departmental foreign language graduation requirement.

Q36: Can I use wireless headphones (AirPods) for the final exam?

Strictly prohibited. You must bring your own wired headphones with a 3.5mm jack. Bluetooth headphones, AirPods, etc., are forbidden.

Q37: I forgot to pay the fee. Can I pay at the exam venue?

No. Failure to pay by the deadline is considered an incomplete registration, and you cannot take the formal exam. You can only register for a make-up exam (which requires a separate fee payment) after the scheduled exam time has started.

Q38: I was a little late for the exam. Can I still enter?

Students late by more than 10 minutes are not allowed to enter. You must log in to the system to register for a make-up exam.

Q39: Will there be a penalty for the make-up exam score?

Yes. Generally, the make-up exam score is calculated at 80% of the actual score. You may apply for a full score calculation only if you provide official proof of force majeure.

Q40: Can I take Remedial English and a Module English course at the same time?

No. The Center does not accept concurrent enrollment in Module English courses and Remedial English.

Q41: I am a student with disabilities. Is the exam format the same?

If you need assessment adjustments, please apply to the "Student Counseling Division - Resource Room" before the withdrawal deadline. Upon approval, the grading will be 50% online assessment and 50% final exam.

Q42: Do I have to bring my Student ID to the exam?

Yes. You will not be admitted without it. You must bring your Student ID AND a second photo ID (e.g., National ID or Driver's License).

Category 5: Second Foreign Language (SFL)

Q43: Can I take Japanese (I) and Japanese (II) in the same semester?

No. You cannot take two courses of the same language at different levels simultaneously.

Q44: Can I take Japanese, German, and Spanish (three courses) in one semester?

No. You may take a maximum of 2 Second Foreign Language courses of different languages per semester.

Q45: I passed Japanese (I) before, but I need more credits. Can I retake Japanese (I)?

You can retake it, but credits for repeating a course with the exact same name do not count towards graduation credits, though the grade will still be calculated.

Q46: Where can I get the paper add-form for Second Foreign Languages?

SFL addition is fully online. Paper forms are no longer used. Please register directly via the "Course Information and Enrollment System."

Q47: Is the SFL add request reviewed by the Foreign Language Center?

No. SFL courses are reviewed online directly by the course instructor.

Q48: The teacher agreed to add me, but I still don't see it in the system.

The teacher reviews conditions before approval. If your schedule already has a "Same Language" course, a "Same Name" course, or you have already reached the 2-course limit, the teacher cannot approve the add request.

Q49: I successfully added an SFL course but now want to withdraw. Can the Center help?

The Center does not assist with withdrawals. Once added, please perform the withdrawal online yourself during the announced period.

Q50: If I tell the teacher I am very eager to learn, can they accept me even if the class exceeds 45 students?

The maximum class size (including added students) is 45. While instructors have some flexibility, they are generally bound by classroom capacity limits.
