Instructions for Registering for the Test

 

This announcement will guide you through the mandatory placement process for Freshman English courses. Please follow the steps below.

I. Test Overview

  • For Whom: All undergraduate freshmen of the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Purpose: To determine your placement in freshman English courses and modules. This test is the sole basis for course placement.
  • Test Type: Oxford Online Placement Test.
  • Test Format: Online Listening and Reading sections. (No pen or paper needed).

 

II. Key Dates & Step-by-Step Guide

Please follow these four steps in chronological order:

STEP 1 Online Registration (Must be completed within the deadline)

  • Registration Period: From 09:00, Saturday, August 16, 2025, to 23:59, Sunday, August 24, 2025.
  • Registration Website: English Placement System
  • Important Notes:
    • Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please read the instructions on the website carefully.
    • After the deadline, no late registrations or changes to your test date/session will be accepted for any reason.

STEP 2 Take the Test (Choose one session)

  • Test Dates: Friday, August 29, 2025, or Monday, September 1, 2025.
  • Location: Computer classrooms at the Computer and Network Center, Cheng-Kung Campus. (Your specific classroom will be shown on the registration system after you register).

  • What to Bring:
    1. A valid ID:
      • International & Overseas Chinese Students: Bring your Freshman's Basic Information Sheet, AND your ARC (Alien Resident Certificate) or Passport.
    2. A pair of 3.5mm wired headphones (for the listening section). Please do not bring AirPods or any other brand of Bluetooth earphones.
  • Before the test: You must read the Test Regulations at the end of this announcement.

STEP 3 Check Your Course Module (Confirm your placement result)

STEP 4 Online Course Selection (Register for your class based on your module)

(Note: The exact start/end times are subject to the Registrar Division's official announcement.)

 

III. Other Important Information

  • Registration Confirmation: After registering, you must check your status on the "Check Test Registration Details/Results of Review" page in the placement system. The information on the system is official and final. The email notification is for reference only.
  • System Lock-out Period: From 23:59 on August 24 until 16:00 on September 2, the placement system will be in view-only mode. You will not be able to register or make changes during this time.
  • English Course Credit Waivers: If your test score meets the requirements, you may apply for a freshman English credit waiver. Please follow the separate procedure announced by the Foreign Language Center.

 

IV. Test Regulations

To ensure a fair testing environment, all students must adhere to the following rules:

  1. Check-in and Arrival: Check-in begins 15 minutes before the test starts. You will not be allowed to enter if you are more than 10 minutes late.
  2. Absence: There is no make-up test. You must be on time.
  3. Accompanying Persons: Family and friends are not allowed to wait inside the test building.
  4. Electronic Devices: Mobile phones must be completely turned off before entering. If your phone makes any sound during the test, you will be asked to leave the room.
  5. Test Conduct: The use of pens, paper, personal electronic devices, or opening other computer windows is strictly prohibited. Violators will be reported and have points deducted from their score.
  6. Leaving the Room: If you need to leave the room temporarily for an emergency, you must get permission from a proctor. The time you are away will not be compensated.
  7. Cheating: Any form of cheating or having someone else take the test for you will result in a score of zero and will be handled according to university regulations.
