Important Information for Freshmen
I. Graduation Credit Requirement (Important)
Undergraduate students must complete and pass 4 credits of General English before graduation. To be assigned to the appropriate course, all freshmen must complete the English Module Registration as outlined below.
II. Target Audience & Exemptions
- Target Audience: First-year undergraduate students enrolled in the current academic year.
- Exempted Students (DO NOT upload scores or register for the test):
- Students eligible for the "4-Credit English Waivers."
- Students of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature (FLLD).
- Returning, Exchange, and Transfer Students (Current Semester):
- This Semester: No registration is needed. You may freely select any English module course.
- Next Semester: To continue taking English courses, you must complete the English module registration within the announced period each semester to be eligible for course selection in the following semester.
III. Registration Methods (Choose ONE Only)
Important Note: You may only choose ONE of the following methods. You cannot do both. If a student completes both methods, the department will automatically assign the student to the module with the higher placement result.
- Method 1: For Students WITH English Proficiency Scores (No Time Limit)
- Condition: You hold a valid English proficiency certificate with a CEFR-aligned level. For example, TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, GEPT, BESTEP, Linguaskill, Cambridge Main Suite.
- Action: Please log in to the "English Placement System" and upload your certificate.
- Method 2: For Students WITHOUT English Proficiency Scores
- Condition: You do not have any valid English proficiency certificates.
- Action: Please log in to the "English Placement System" and register for the "Freshman English Placement Test."

You will not be assigned a module and cannot take English courses this semester. You must take an external English proficiency test (e.g., TOEIC, GEPT, BESTEP) on your own. Once you receive the score, follow the Center's announcement for "Module Registration" to select courses for the next semester. |

Want to Upgrade to a Higher Module |
Condition: You obtain a higher-level English proficiency score during the semester. Action: Follow the Center's announcement for "Module Registration" to change your module. Result: Once completed, you may select courses in the new module for the next semester. |
